Bergamot
Bergaptene Free (Citrus bergamia ) SD/Italy/Peel -
This refreshing pure essential oil comes from the fruit
of the Bergamot tree, a member of the citrus family, which grows in Italy
and Africa. Many people readily recognize the citrus fresh, almost floral
scent of Bergamot, as it is present in Earl Grey tea.
Bergamot is a wonderful and complex pure essential oil. It is said to
have calming effects, and as a result is often used when stress and anxiety
are present. Bergamot is also known for its refreshing and rejuvenating
qualities and is often credited with the ability to uplift the spirits!
Bergamot is sometimes called a "confidence-builder", and for
this reason is the pure essential oil of choice when one is facing a particularly
stressful situation, such as a job interview or public speaking engagement.
Bergamot is an excellent pure essential oil to diffuse at home or at
the office. It is especially valuable in the afternoon hours, when mental
fatigue and stress are setting in. Bergamot's ability to refresh and invigorate
make it one pure essential oil that should be part of every aromatherapy
kit!
When using topically, it is important to remember that like the other
citrus oils, bergamot has photosensitizing properties and can make one's
skin much more sensitive to sunlight and sunburn. Bergamot should never
be applied to the skin undiluted, nor should one expose their skin to
the sun if they are using aromatherapy products that contain bergamot.
Bergamot contains antiseptic compounds and is useful for oily skin and
other skin conditions.
Bergamot blends well with other citrus oils, jasmine,
clary sage, juniper, sandalwood, ylang ylang, geranium and cedarwood.
